How to Remove and Refit Mk1 Rover 25 / MG ZR Front Fog Lights

Step 1

Take the cloth/rag and wrap it around the thin flat head screw driver, this will help protect the paint, then position it in the small slot on the outer most point of the fog light surround.

Step 2

Using the screw driver as a lever pop the fog light surround off of the front bumper. Be careful whilst levering not to slip and scratch the paint, or be too enthusiastic and snap the tabs off the back of the surround.

Once the surround has been removed it should look like this.

Step 3

Now that the surround has been removed, you should be able to see where the fog light is attached to the front bumper.

On the outer side of the fog light are two screws, and one on the inner side.

Using the Phillips head screw driver, unscrew and remove these screws. When removed the fog light will come away from the bumper, do not let it hang by the wire, keep it supported to prevent any damage occurring.

Note: In the pictures my screws are flat head type, this is because I retrofitted my car with fog lights, adding my own screws, not the factory OEM Phillips head screws.

Step 4

Once free of the bumper, the fog light can be pulled out enough to access the clip at the back of the fog light unit. To unclip this, simply squeeze the tabs on the side and then pull it off.

Step 5

The fog light unit will now be completely free of the car. Alternatively to removing the fog light, you may want to just swap the bulb. You can do this with the cable attached or removed, obviously with the cable removed you can do it away from the car, which might be easier.

To remove the bulb simply twist the part that the cable clips into 90° and pull it out. The bulb required is a H11 bulb.

Step 6

To replace, just follow steps 1 - 5 in reverse. Be careful when tightening the screws to the bumper though, as the brackets are only plastic and, with any considerable force, could snap.
